Self-Defined Final Project Plan

Color of the Outside World

Color is all around us. Every day, whether we notice it or not, we interact with color. It influences the way we feel, how we express ours emotions, and even the language we use. Think of phrases like “feeling blue,” “caught red-handed,” “telling a white lie,” or “having a green thumb.” Emotions work a lot like color, what we feel can show in the colors we choose to wear. On days filled with sadness, people often wear darker tones, while brighter, fun colors tend to reflect moments of happiness and energy.

In the slideshow, Color of the Outside World, by Kayla Peterkin. I used a mix of natural outdoor colors and added my own colors to make a creative touch to make the images pop. The color I chosen is to help amplify the the emotion that I am trying to convey.

This image I took of a sunset, this might be one of the most vast color pallet in nature. The way the colors spread out in the sky with the clouds and trees adding extra contrast. The top photo gains more of a jaw dropping reaction, compared to the bottom image that give a more peaceful energy.

The image is meant to show how color affects perception and mood. A simple living room scene can feel completely different depending of the hue of the lighting. The two top images show the same coach, but the yellow toned image gives more of a scarier feeling, while the bright pink hue gives a happier, more playful vibe. The two doors at the bottom express a scarier vs calming atmosphere. The red image gives off the feeling of dreed and fear compared to the white images gives more peaceful and calming feeling.

These images show how a touch of light can change a simple living room into a fun, happy scene. Using a light wand, I was able to mess with different hues and saturation, creating images that draw attention based on  the vibrant colors.

Conclusion

Color is able to demonstrate how different lighting and hues can completely change the mood and emotion of a image, showing that even simple settings can become striking through creative use of light. Color is able to impact how we perceive images and the world around us, next time you look at a picture, ask yourself, “Why am I drawn to this image?”
